On Wednesday, September 10, 2025, Israel once again attacked another sovereign nation in an act considered as aggression for war. An Israeli airstrike in Doha, Qatar killed six people, including the son of senior Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya, the director of al-Hayya’s office, three bodyguards and a Qatari security officer. This makes Qatar the sixth country attacked by Israeli airstrikes in the past 3 days. Aside from Qatar, Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and Tunisia were all attacked in airstrikes in supposed targeted attacks against Hamas operatives. These spillover conflicts have been going on for far too long and have been far too deadly. Over a thousand civilians have died outside of the Palestinian border, including 232 Syrian refugees in Lebanon, due to Israel’s blatant disregard for basic human rights and international humanitarian law.

Simultaneously, the Gaza Strip is also enduring one of the gravest humanitarian emergencies in recent memory. Man-made famine, exacerbated by extreme food deprivation, acute malnutrition, and starvation deaths, is now confirmed in Gaza In a joint assessment by FAO, UNICEF, WFP, and WHO. In July 2025 alone, 63 of 74 malnutrition-related deaths occurred, including 24 children under five. Making it worse, nearly one in five children under five in Gaza City is acutely malnourished and has been tripling since June 2025. More than ever, these nations urge the support and actions of the United Nations, the Security Council, and the rest of the international community to stand for peace and security against the recurring atrocities done by Israel and their allies.

We, the delegation of Model United Nations - UP Diliman (MUN-UPD), strongly condemn the attacks of the Israeli government at Doha, Qatar and the extreme humanitarian crisis, particularly the man-made famine currently ravaging the Palestinian people. The convergence of armed conflict spilling into Qatar and other areas of the Middle East and Northern Africa, as well as the unprecedented confirmation of famine further epitomises the state of horror experienced by those living there everyday. The UN, particularly the UNSC, has been complacent in dealing with the issue and they have been quite ineffective and irresolute in their discussions of this, still without concrete action to end the war. Meanwhile, tens of thousands have died both directly due to the conflict and as collateral damage to the humanitarian crisis. This severe loss of civilian life is unacceptable and must be addressed immediately. Now is the time for decisive, compassionate, and people-first diplomatic action.
